The feast of Christ the King is a Catholic feast, instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925, by the encyclical Quas primas, in order to highlight the idea that nations should obey the laws of Christ. Originally, it was celebrated on the last Sunday of October (that is, the Sunday before All Saints' Day); it is celebrated on the last Sunday of the liturgical calendar, towards the end of November.

Feast of Christ the King, end of the liturgical calendar

Christ the King is a Christological concept, which evokes royalty, domination or power (powerful) of Jesus Christ over all creation (the universe created by God). The term "king" to symbolize power comes from the Hebrew tradition.

Kingship was the most common form of government of the people of Israel in the Old Testament. The expression Christ the King (also known as Munus regium) thus designates one of the functions or offices of Christ, alongside the function of the priesthood ("Christ-priest" or priestly munis) and prophecy (munus propheticum). The expression is thus found in several biblical passages.

We also distinguish the "reign of grace" (regnum gratiae), here below and which relates to the “militant church” (ecclesia militants), of the “reign of glory” (regnum gloriæ), which relates to the "triumphant church" (ecclesia triumphans), which gathers together those who are in paradise. Eusebius of Caesarea, IIIe And IVe centuries) is one of the first to have formalized this distinction between the three Christian offices: "The true Christ, the divine and heavenly Word, is the only sovereign priest of the universe, the only king of all creation, the only head of the prophets of his Father"Ecclesiastical history, I, 3, 8.
