The Plebeian Games (Latin Ludi Plebeii) were an ancient Roman religious festival held from November 4 to 17. The games included both theatrical performances and athletic competitions intended to entertain the people of Rome.
Ludi Plebeii, the plebeian games
According to an ancient source, the games were held in the Circus Flaminius, which was associated with the people of Rome (the plebs). Almost all other games were held in the Circus Maximus. The Circus Flaminius was built by the plebeian censor Gaius Flaminius in 220 BC. During the festival, a feast of Jupiter (Epulum Iovis) was held on November 13, a cavalry parade on November 14, and circus games (ludi circenses, mainly chariot races) from November 15 to 17.
The location of the games at the Circus Flaminius may therefore be an error, since the Circus Flaminius did not have a track for chariot races. A procession similar to that of the Ludi Romani would also have been part of the festivities.
