Hanukkah, חג החנוכה Hag HaNukkah, Feast of the Edification or of the Encens, is a Jewish holiday of rabbinical institution, commemorating the rededication of the altar of offerings in the Second Temple of Jerusalem. It marks an important military victory of the Maccabees and symbolizes the spiritual resistance of Judaism to Hellenistic assimilation.
