Saint Catherine's Day is celebrated on November 25. It has retained its popularity throughout the centuries since the 10th century. It commemorates the martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, one of the Fourteen Helpers. In Lutheran lands, the feast is also associated with Catherine, wife of Henry VIII of England. Since medieval times, Saint Catherine has been known as the patron saint of unmarried women.
