The Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, or Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, is a liturgical feast announced on June 29 in honor of the martyrdom of the saints
The Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul
In the Catholic tradition, it is the day of the liturgical year when newly created metropolitans receive from the hands of the Pope the pallium, the main symbol of their title.
Since January 29, 2015, Pope Francis has decided that it is no longer the Pope who will impose the pallium on the new metropolitan archbishop, but the apostolic nuncio in the archbishop's cathedral. The new archbishops will, however, continue to travel to Rome on June 29 to attend the blessing of the new pallium in St. Peter's Basilica and receive the pallium privately from Pope Francis, in order to have it imposed on them later.
For Orthodox as well as Eastern Christians, this feast also marks the end of the Apostles' Fast. It is considered a day on which Christians must attend an all-night vigil or Vespers, as well as the Divine Liturgy.
In Russian Orthodox tradition, the miracle of Macarius of Ounja is said to have taken place during the Apostles' Fast and the following Feast of Saints Peter and Paul.
