On this day, the Greeks celebrated Dipolieia/Bouphonia in honor of Zeus Polieus. A strange ritual was taking place. Wheat was placed on the altar in the presence of oxen. The first to feed was then sacrificed with an axe, and the killer was then tried for his crime.
