Our Lady of Montserrat

Today, Catalans celebrate Our Lady of Montserrat, patroness of Catalonia. The statue, blackened by time, has the nickname Moreneta (the little black one), and it would be sacrilege to return the statue to its original color. From 233, the archangel Saint Michael descended on the site of Montserrat to destroy a temple that the Romans had built to Venus around the year 160.
