Thaipusam

Today, the Tamil community celebrates Thaipusam. This commemorates both the birth of Murugan, also called Subrāhmanya, the youngest son of the god Shiva and his wife Parvati, as well as the occasion on which Parvati gave Murugan a spear, so that he could defeat the demon Surapadman.
